Microdosing and your body: from tension to relaxation

Sometimes tension sits deeper than your head. Your to-do list is done, you’ve done your best to stay positive, and yet something still lingers. A knot in your stomach. Shoulders that won’t drop. A body that just won’t settle into rest. At Fungki, we get this question a lot: can microdosing with truffles help with that? The honest answer is nuanced.

What tension does to your body

Many people carry tension around without realizing it. It settles into muscles, breathing, and posture. Your body learns to treat “being switched on” as the norm: shoulders up, jaw clenched, breathing that stays high in the chest. That’s closely tied to your autonomic nervous system. That system switches all day between action mode (sympathetic) and rest mode (parasympathetic). Under prolonged stress, that switch tends to get stuck in action mode more often than is healthy.

What we know about microdosing and the nervous system

Psilocybin, the active compound in truffles, acts on serotonin receptors that also play a role in stress regulation. Research into higher, therapeutic doses of psilocybin shows interesting changes in how people deal with stress and anxiety.

For microdoses specifically, meaning doses too small to produce a psychedelic effect, there’s less hard research available. What we mostly have are the stories of people who are already trying it. Many of our customers at Fungki tell us about softer breathing on microdosing days, fewer tight muscles, and more space in the body. Those are valuable signals. They’re experiences, not scientific proof, and we think that distinction is important to be honest about.

Body awareness as a compass

What happens if you stay consciously aware of your body on a microdosing day? If you notice where it pulls, where it softens, where something releases? A chest that breathes more deeply. Legs that feel heavier. Signals you normally skip past, but that can say a lot about where tension collects.

That’s why many people combine microdosing with breathwork, an aimless walk, or simply a moment of stillness. Not as a performance, but as space to notice what was already there. When emotions come up

Some people experience unexpected emotions during or after a microdosing period. A tear for no clear reason, a wave of relief, or even sadness. That doesn’t have to be a problem, and it happens to more people than you’d think.

That said, we deliberately avoid making big claims here. The idea that the body “stores” trauma and that truffles automatically release it is popular, but unproven. If you experience strong emotions or lingering memories during microdosing, talk to a doctor or to our therapist about it. Microdosing is a complement to your own process, not a replacement for professional guidance.

How to get started

Want to try microdosing with truffles yourself as part of your relaxation routine? A few guiding principles we always share at Fungki:

  • Start with a low dose and build up gradually. Everyone responds differently.
  • Choose a fixed rhythm, for example one day microdosing and two days off.
  • Combine it with something that already relaxes you, like walking, breathing, or simply doing nothing.

Check out our full range of microdosing truffles here. New to microdosing and looking for a clear step-by-step plan? Start with the Beginner’s Protocol. We developed this protocol specifically for that purpose: a gentle rhythm of 1 day microdosing and 2 days off, over a period of 2 months, letting your body gradually get used to the substance while receiving guidance by email.

Frequently asked questions about microdosing and the body

Does microdosing always help with physical tension?

Not guaranteed. Many people experience more relaxation, but the effect varies from person to person and hasn’t been scientifically established for microdoses specifically.

Can microdosing make me emotional?

Yes, some users report this. It’s not something to worry about as a side effect, but it is something to take seriously if it persists.

Is microdosing with truffles legal in the Netherlands?

Fresh truffles are legally available in the Netherlands for adults aged 18 and over, unlike dried mushrooms.

How long does it take before you notice an effect?

Some people notice a difference on the very first day, others only after a few weeks of consistent use. Everyone responds differently to microdosing.
